Dear Friends,

It has been such a pleasure sharing new garments with you every week for the last several months.  Let us know if you’ve enjoyed it too.  We look forward to showing off the Message in a Bottle collection with many of you in person this Sunday.  Our garments are enhanced by a tactile experience, making them practically irresistible.  Be warned.

And now, without further ado, we present the final piece of the season: The Marine Cowl.  This sophisticated top boasts a very full and perfectly draped cowl neck which neatly snaps in the back.  The striped fabric is cut on the bias for comfort and ease of fit.  When worn with a pair of black trousers or skirt, you achieve the look of endless legs.  This is particularly true with our black Boardwalk Trousers.  They were made to be together.  This top is the embodiment of elegant dressing made comfortable and easy.  We hope you can’t resist!

This is a piece we’re crowd sourcing.  If we receive just 5 orders, we’ll make them for you.  Please place orders by May 25th.

Don’t keep us a secret,
Bree and Kyra

60's Top in Black Cotton Lace
60's Top in French black cotton lace

Dear Friends,

Remember when fashion was full of rules, like no white after Labor Day, or sparkle is only for evening?  Well, we’re all about breaking the rules this week.  Despite shops full of pastels and floral prints, I'm in the mood to wear black right now.  However, finding those special black pieces that really elevate an outfit can be a challenge.

Well, look no further: this week’s release, the 60’s top, is far from dull in an absolutely alluring French Cotton Lace.  While it’s called a lace, it’s like none we had ever seen before.  The perfect balance of sturdy and delicate, geometric and organic, this fabric is a stunner.

The comfortable cut looks perfect with a fitted trouser or skirt and doubles as a lightweight jacket.  And if you are feeling in the mood for florals, the 60’s top would love to accompany that Bird of Paradise pencil skirt you just got.  Don’t take our word for it.  Come see for yourself on May 3rd at our Open Studio.

Stay tuned for next week’s final release of the season.  We’ve saved something special for last.

Happy Earth Day,
Bree and Kyra

Twice as Nice

Dear Friends,

This week we’re releasing not one, but two garments, which just happen to go great together.

To adorn the upper half we offer the Horizon Top.  The fabric is a red and black abstract pattern in 100% silk with black Tencel sides and a cotton stripe neck detail.  It is so utterly soft and elegant you’ll want to sleep in it.

On the bottom we have the High Tide Trousers.  They’re high waisted and highly covetable.  A tux stripe down the sides adds flair to these cropped britches.  Available in a black textured crepe which likes to travel and a show stopping inky stripe.

You can order these items today online.  Or, come try them on at our Open House on May 3rd.  1-5pm at 1960 Mandela Parkway, Oakland, CA 94607.

Wishing you well,
Bree and Kyra

Porto Top in Red Silk Noil

Dear Friends,

As summer nears we dream of travels and adventures.  The days grow long and anything seems possible.  For some of us, that may be exploring a new city with friends, or relaxing by the sea with family.  Others may be flying to far away lands and sailing into distant Ports.  Wherever your summer takes you, our Porto Top is the perfect travel companion.

This fitted number is rich with details.  It works well as a shirt and doubles as a lightweight jacket over a tank or t-shirt.  The mandarin collar curves around the neckline with delicate frayed edges which continue down the front.  These double stitched frays also go around the cuffs and across the back yoke.  It has a hidden front zipper and two snaps.  Each of the three colorways has a contrast waistband.  This top pairs particularly well with our Cascade skirt.

To try on the Porto Top in one of our 8 sizes, make an appointment anytime, or visit us at our Open House 1-5 pm on May 3rd in the American Steel Studios in West Oakland. (1960 Mandela Parkway, Oakland, CA 94607)

Bon Voyage,
Bree and Kyra

Portrait of a Lady

Landscape Top

Dear Friends,

Throughout the ages women have been immortalized on canvas.  We’re captivated by William Clarke Wontner’s portrait of an Elegant Lady, drawn in by John Singer Sargent's Madame X, and mesmerized by Marie-Gabrielle Capet’s Self Portrait. Paintings map hundreds of years of fashion and trends.  Through all the changes, one style continues to flatter: the Portrait Collar.  And true to the name, this complimentary and feminine design is a work of art.

This week marks the arrival of the Landscape Top.  Our modern revision of the portrait collar is sure to stand the test of time.  Its deep indigo color, layered design and painterly collar belong in a museum.  If you’re in the SF Bay Area, we recommend you wear it to the Legion of Honor for the High Style exhibit, through July 19th.  This selection from the Brooklyn Collection is a delight!

Where to find us?  We are always available for personal Vermeulen styling by appointment.  Please join us at our Studio Open House at American Steel Studios on May 3rd from 1-5pm. (1960 Mandela Parkway, Oakland, CA 94607)

And visit us at American Steel for the Art Murmur this Friday, April 3rd from 6-9pm.

Have a color filled week,
Bree and Kyra
