Mercury Vest

Mercury is the only metallic element that is liquid at room temperature.  There are also unique properties to our Mercury Vest.  It has the styling of a traditional men’s vest in a wool flannel chalk stripe, yet sports an ultra feminine fit.  The buttons sit in beautiful asymmetrical handsewn bound buttonholes.  The black cotton back has 5% stretch to move with you comfortably.  The front pockets will carry your small treasures and a handsome pocket square.

Vests add panache to any outfit.  This one is divine!

Show a little leg!

Cascade Skirt

Dear Friends,

Torrential style is in the offering with this week’s release, the Cascade Skirt!

We’re excited for the change of season and an occasion to mix up our wardrobe with a few new pieces.  Aren’t your legs craving a little fresh air?

This flirty number wants to be taken for a walk at Lake Merritt, for oysters at Jack London Square, and certainly for an evening tango dancing.  It has a fitted waist and hip, while the bias panels and flared hem allow for a full range of motion on the dance floor.

It is available in two fully lined colorways.  The first is a show stopping deep red silk.  The second is a breezy hemp/organic cotton stripe.  Consider wearing organic cotton, it’s a better choice for so many reasons.  Want to learn more, we’d love to chat at our Open House on May 3rd.  See below for details.

Have a bright week,
Kyra and Bree

Dear Friends,

Stand Out in the Crowd!

And you certainly will in the third piece from our Message in a Bottle collection: The Promenade Coat.  This stunning summer-weight coat is sewn in a beautifully graphic double ikat cotton.

We’re trying something new with this piece.  We’re crowd sourcing it.  That means if 5 (or more) people place an order for it, we’ll produce it.

Now why would we do this?  We put a tremendous effort into the development of each piece we bring you.  The resources we pour in are much greater for a complex item such as a coat.  At the end of the day, we make everything with you in mind.  Your lifestyle, your body, your needs.  Let us know what you think.  And even better, place an order for yours today.

Let’s work together on this endeavor!

Take 2: The Boardwalk Trousers

Dear Friends,

Today we launch the second piece in our Message in a Bottle Collection:  The Boardwalk Trousers!

These pants deliver the classic silhouette you desire, and are designed to be that perfect straight leg trouser you wear day after day into evening.  Far from mundane, they channel a Katherine Hepburn ease and elegance.  They sit comfortably at your true waist, smoothly hug the hips, and then gently drape down the leg.

What goes into creating such amazing trousers, you ask?  Long before the Boardwalk Trousers make it to your closet, they’re put through rigorous design and development at Vermeulen HQ.  First we draft a pattern and make a sample.  That pattern is then revised and tweaked until we have it just right.  Next, we test the pattern in other sizes.  We’ve developed a grading system unique to Vermeulen & Co. to achieve that miraculous fit not only in a size 4, but throughout all of our sizes.

Once we have the technical side worked out, it’s time to take them on the road.  This is the fun part.  We wear them out and about and see how well they stand up in the real world.  They’ve enjoyed wine tasting in beautiful Sonoma County, they’ve been to the office and several parties, they’ve ventured into the verdant jungles.  See them below lounging next to a lagoon at Los Pozas in Xilitla, Mexico.  These babies have performed so well and we’re just thrilled to share them with you.
