Mercury Vest

Mercury is the only metallic element that is liquid at room temperature.  There are also unique properties to our Mercury Vest.  It has the styling of a traditional men’s vest in a wool flannel chalk stripe, yet sports an ultra feminine fit.  The buttons sit in beautiful asymmetrical handsewn bound buttonholes.  The black cotton back has 5% stretch to move with you comfortably.  The front pockets will carry your small treasures and a handsome pocket square.

Vests add panache to any outfit.  This one is divine!

Vermeulen produces in small quantities and offers both immediate sales and made-to-order garments, making each style a unique and special addition to your wardrobe.

We offer free shipping on all orders (and return shipping if needed).  To celebrate with us and try the garments on in person, join us in studio for the May launch party:

Sunday May 3rd, 1-5pm
American Steel Studios
1960 Mandela Pkwy.
Oakland, CA 94607

Behind the scenes:
We photographed the collection in the historic Berkeley City Club, designed by local girl Julia Morgan.  She was the first woman admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where she received her Master's Degree in Architecture, and the first licensed woman architect in California. What a hero!
The Berkeley City Club was entirely financed by Berkeley women and was originally a women's only clubhouse.  She designed every fixture and decoration in the building, including the china!  At Vermeulen & Co., we appreciate her sharp attention to detail.

A modern classic: Vermeulen & Co.'s Pencil Pants

Posted on October 30, 2014 by Bree Hylkema | 0 Comments

There's a reason Vermeulen & Co.'s pencil pants have become a classic.  It's not just the ultra slimming design lines.  It's not only that you can wear them anywhere.  The front pocket details are simply a bonus.

It's that you can wear them all day as comfortably as your best loved pair of jeans while looking sharp.  That 5% stretch on the back and side panels highlight your curves in just the right way.

We don't just make these pants, we wear them too.  In fact, we wear them a lot.

Here they are enjoying the orchid collection at the Jardin Botanico in Mexico City.  These pencil pants have been out on the town all day.  In a few minutes I'm taking them out for a delicious meal with friends.

Consider taking your own pair to dinner!

Currently available in 3 color ways: http://bit.ly/VandCoPencilPants

Enjoy Fall with Vermeulen & Co.'s Friesian Jacket

Posted on October 24, 2014 by Miss Kyra | 0 Comments

Sundays in the Chapultapec Park, a gem of Mexico City, are jam packed with life and activity.  Families stroll the tree lined paths, lovers enjoy the panoramic views from the castle, friends paddle boat around the lake and the scent of churros fills the air.  Yum!

And while the autumn rains aren't the slightest deterrent to enjoying a day in the park, they do necessitate a bit of bundling up.

Here at Vermeulen & Co., we don't just make the beautiful boiled wool Friesian Jacket, we wear it too.  This week it's really been put to the test!  It has weathered cool temperatures and heavy showers as well as enjoyed museums, the ballet, eating out, grocery shopping and lounging around the apartamento.  When it's gotten warm, I've stuffed it in my satchel.

Here's the jacket in the sculpture gardens of the Museo de Arte Moderno in the Bosque de Chapultapec.

I can honestly report that this jacket has been perfect every day.  Strangers have stopped me to compliment it... really.

The jacket is slimming by highlighting the curve of your back.  The two front pockets are perfect for museum tickets and other odds and ends.  It is lovely worn open or with the four horn buttons closed.  The boiled wool has a natural stretch allowing a full ease of movement.
